When is the next NJ UBE administration?
The Feb 2027 NJ UBE is administered on the last Tuesday of February 2027 (Tue 2027-02-23 / Wed 2027-02-24). The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners (NJBBE) posts the application window roughly four months ahead; the late-filing fees climb sharply after the priority deadline. The July 2027 cycle follows the same pattern on the last Tuesday of July.
Can I transfer a UBE score into New Jersey?
Yes — under R. 1:24-9, New Jersey accepts a transferred UBE score earned in another UBE jurisdiction within the prior 3 years. A transfer candidate must still satisfy every R. 1:24 et seq. requirement, including the 10-year character & fitness disclosure under R. 1:26-6 and the MPRE (≥75, NCBE-certified, on file before the NJBBE approves the application). The NJBBE receives the transfer application and reviews it in the same eligibility framework as a sitter. There is no New Jersey waiver of the MPRE.

What is the NJ passing UBE scaled score?
New Jersey uses the multistate UBE passing scaled score of 266 — the same floor as the bulk of UBE-adopting jurisdictions. The MBE, MEE, and MPT components combine into a single 400-point scaled score; below 266 the candidate must re-sit. The NJBBE does not impose a state-specific higher floor; the 266 floor is itself a sufficient condition for NJ certification, subject to C&F and MPRE.
Does New Jersey require an ABA-accredited JD?
Yes — under R. 1:24-2, every applicant must hold a juris doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time of graduation, OR satisfy the pre-ABA-pathway alternative under R. 1:24-2(b) for qualifying candidates. Unlike Texas, New Jersey does not offer a law-office-study / apprenticeship admission pathway; the JD is the primary academic route. Foreign-trained LLM candidates must also satisfy the R. 1:24-2 requirements — check with the NJBBE before applying.
What is the New Jersey Lawyers Assistance Program (NJ LARP)?
NJ LARP is a non-public, peer-support counselling path for attorneys (and applicants) with substance-use or mental-health concerns. Participation in NJ LARP may be disclosed on the R. 1:26-6 character & fitness questionnaire and is not disqualifying under R. 1:26 — it is treated as a mitigating disclosure and not a basis to deny admission. The program is administered separately from the NJBBE and is voluntary.
