Bar admission is administered by the Hawaii Board of Bar Examiners acting under the authority of the Supreme Court of Hawaii and the Rules of the Supreme Court of Hawaii (RSCH). The HBBE processes applications, administers the HBE on the last Tuesday of February and the last Wednesday of July, and certifies admissions.

A JD from an ABA-approved law school is the default eligibility path under the RSCH. The HBBE also accepts the foreign-trained LLM alternative for applicants who complete an RSCH-approved LLM program from an ABA-approved U.S. law school.

MPRE scaled ≥ 85 + HRPC + post-admission CLE
The MPRE scaled ≥ 85 is required within the eligibility window under the RSCH. The Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct (HRPC) govern ethical practice post-admission.
