Indiana Supreme Court BLE · admission

What every Indiana candidate has to clear before sitting.

The four administrative facts every Indiana candidate needs — sourced to the Indiana Supreme Court Board of Law Examiners (Indiana BLE) acting under the Indiana Supreme Court and the Rules for Admission to the Bar of Indiana (Rule 1 — JD from an ABA-approved law school, with NO clerk-reader / law-office-study / LLM alternative; Rule 13 — the Character & Fitness Questionnaire, the standard 10-year disclosure framework without a voluntary LAP path like WA LAP / NJ LARP / GA GLCP). The statutory ground the module is written on top of, not a marketing pitch.

01 · administrator

Indiana Supreme Court Board of Law Examiners (Indiana BLE)

Bar admission is administered by the Indiana Supreme Court Board of Law Examiners (Indiana BLE) acting under the authority of the Indiana Supreme Court and the Rules for Admission to the Bar of Indiana. The Board processes applications, sets the exam (the UBE under Indiana’s adoption), and certifies admissions.

02 · eligibility

JD from an ABA-approved law school

A JD from an ABA-approved law school is the complete academic route under Indiana Rule 1. Indiana does NOT maintain a clerk-reader / law-office-study / apprenticeship alternative like MO Rule 8.04 / AL Rule II / CA Rule 4.15, and Indiana does NOT publish an LLM alternative like CO Rule 201(b) / WA APR 3(c) / AZ Rule 34(g) for foreign-trained lawyers; the JD-from-ABA pathway under Rule 1 is the complete academic menu.

03 · the bar exam

Two-day UBE, Feb & July · MPT + MEE + 200 MBE · 264 floor

Day 1 AM: the 90-minute MPT. Day 1 PM: six 30-minute MEE essays on the Indiana-flavored topic pool. Day 2 AM: 200-question multistate MBE. The 264 passing-scaled score floorsits BELOW the 266 default (shared with NY / TX / MA / IL / PA / NJ / WA / OH / NC / VA / CO / MO) and ABOVE the lower-tier AL / WI / MN 260 floor, distinct from GA’s 270 high-bracket.

04 · MPRE + Rule 13 C&F + IN CLE Rule

MPRE ≥ 80 + Rule 13 (10-year disclosure) + IN CLE Rule 36/3

The MPRE scaled score ≥ 80 is the IN BLE default-MPRE tier (the 80 floor is the DEFAULT-MPRE shared with NJ / NC / VA / IL / MO / IN, ABOVE the 75 lower-bracket of AL / GA / OK, BELOW the 85 high-bracket of WA / OH / MA / NY / CO / TX / AZ). Rule 13 governs the 10-year character & fitness disclosure (the standard 10-year model without a voluntary LAP path). The Indiana CLE Rule (36 hours every 3 years) governs the post-admission MCLE cycle, distinct from MO under § 8.08 15 hours per year and CA 25 hours / 3 years.
